Nebuchadnezzar Besieges Jerusalem

1 And it came to be in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he, and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it; and they built forts against it round about.

וַיְהִי֩ בִשְׁנַ֨ת הַתְּשִׁיעִ֜ית לְמָלְכֹ֗ו בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הָעֲשִׂירִי֮ בֶּעָשֹׂ֣ור לַחֹדֶשׁ֒ בָּ֠א נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּ֨ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֜ל ה֧וּא וְכָל־חֵילֹ֛ו עַל־יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם וַיִּ֣חַן עָלֶ֑יהָ וַיִּבְנ֥וּ עָלֶ֖יהָ דָּיֵ֥ק סָבִֽיב׃

4 καὶ ἐρράγη πόλις, καὶ πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες τοῦ πολέμου ἐξῆλθον νυκτὸς ὁδὸν πύλης τῆς ἀνὰ μέσον τῶν τειχέων, αὕτη ἐστιν τοῦ κήπου τοῦ βασιλέως, καὶ οἱ Χαλδαῖοι ἐπὶ τὴν πόλιν κύκλῳ.
καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὁδὸν τὴν Ἄραβα,

5 καὶ ἐδίωξεν δύναμις τῶν Χαλδαίων ὀπίσω τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ κατέλαβον αὐτὸν ἐν Ἀραβὼθ Ἰεριχώ, καὶ πᾶσα δύναμις αὐτοῦ διεσπάρη ἐπάνωθεν αὐτοῦ. 5 καὶ ἐδίωξεν δύναμις τῶν Χαλδαίων ὀπίσω τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ κατέλαβον αὐτὸν ἐν Ἀραβὼθ Ἱεριχώ, καὶ πᾶσα δύναμις αὐτοῦ διεσπάρη ἐπάνωθεν αὐτοῦ.

Jerusalem Burned and Plundered

8 And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which is the 19th year of king Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, came Nebuzar-adan, captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, unto Jerusalem:

וּבַחֹ֤דֶשׁ הַֽחֲמִישִׁי֙ בְּשִׁבְעָ֣ה לַחֹ֔דֶשׁ הִ֗יא שְׁנַת֙ תְּשַֽׁע־עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ נְבֻכַדְנֶאצַּ֣ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֑ל בָּ֞א נְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֧ן רַב־טַבָּחִ֛ים עֶ֥בֶד מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל יְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃

8 καὶ ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ πέμπτῳ ἑβδόμῃ τοῦ μηνός αὐτὸς ἐνιαυτὸς ἐννεακαιδέκατος τῷ Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλεῖ Βαβυλῶνος ἦλθεν Ναβουζαρδὰν ἀρχιμάγειρος ἑστὼς ἐνώπιον βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ. 8 Καὶ ἐν τῷ μηνὶ τῷ πέμπτῳ ἑβδόμῃ τοῦ μηνὸς (αὐτὸς ἐνιαυτὸς ἐννεακαιδέκατος τῷ Ναβουχοδονόσορ βασιλεῖ Βαβυλῶνος) ἦλθε Ναβουζαρδὰν ἀρχιμάγειρος ἑστὼς ἐνώπιον βασιλέως Βαβυλῶνος εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ.

11 καὶ τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ λαοῦ τὸ καταλειφθὲν ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ τοὺς ἐμπεπτωκότας, οἳ ἐνέπεσον πρὸς βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ τὸ λοιπὸν τοῦ στηρίγματος μετῆρεν Ναβουζαρδὰν ἀρχιμάγειρος. 11 καὶ τὸ περισσὸν τοῦ λαοῦ τὸ καταλειφθὲν ἐν τῇ πόλει καὶ τοὺς ἐμπεπτωκότας, οἳ ἐνέπεσον πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ τὸ λοιπὸν τοῦ στηρίγματος μετῇρε Ναβουζαρδὰν ἀρχιμάγειρος.

13 καὶ τοὺς στύλους τοὺς χαλκοῦς τοὺς ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου καὶ τὰς μεχωνὼθ καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν χαλκῆν τὴν ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου συνέτριψαν οἱ Χαλδαῖοι καὶ ἦραν τὸν χαλκὸν αὐτῶν εἰς Βαβυλῶνα. 13 καὶ τοὺς στύλους τοὺς χαλκοῦς τοὺς ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου καὶ τὰς μεχωνὼθ καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν τὴν χαλκῆν τὴν ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου συνέτριψαν οἱ Χαλδαῖοι.

14 καὶ τοὺς λέβητας καὶ τὰ ιαμιν καὶ τὰς φιάλας καὶ τὰς θυίσκας καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ χαλκᾶ, ἐν οἷς λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς, ἔλαβεν· 14 καὶ τοὺς λέβητας καὶ τὰ ἰαμὶν καὶ τὰς φιάλας καὶ τὰς θυΐσκας καὶ πάντα τὰ σκεύη τὰ χαλκᾶ, ἐν οἷς λειτουργοῦσιν ἐν αὐτοῖς, ἔλαβε·

שְׁמֹנֶה֩ עֶשְׂרֵ֨ה אַמָּ֜ה קֹומַ֣ת ׀ הָעַמּ֣וּד הָאֶחָ֗ד וְכֹתֶ֨רֶת עָלָ֥יו ׀ נְחֹשֶׁת֮ וְקֹומַ֣ת הַכֹּתֶרֶת֮ שָׁלֹ֣שׁ וּשְׂבָכָ֨ה וְרִמֹּנִ֧ים עַֽל־הַכֹּתֶ֛רֶת סָבִ֖יב הַכֹּ֣ל נְחֹ֑שֶׁת וְכָאֵ֛לֶּה לַֽעַמּ֥וּד הַשֵּׁנִ֖י עַל־הַשְּׂבָכָֽה׃

20 And Nebuzar-adan captain of the guard took these, and brought them to the king of Babylon to Riblah:

וַיִּקַּ֣ח אֹתָ֔ם נְבוּזַרְאֲדָ֖ן רַב־טַבָּחִ֑ים וַיֹּ֧לֶךְ אֹתָ֛ם עַל־מֶ֥לֶךְ בָּבֶ֖ל רִבְלָֽתָה׃

Gedaliah Made Governor

22 And as for the people that remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left, even over them he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, ruler.

וְהָעָ֗ם הַנִּשְׁאָר֙ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ יְהוּדָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִשְׁאִ֔יר נְבֽוּכַדְנֶאצַּ֖ר מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֑ל וַיַּפְקֵ֣ד עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֥ם בֶּן־שָׁפָֽן׃

23 καὶ ἤκουσαν πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς δυνάμεως, αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτῶν, ὅτι κατέστησεν βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος τὸν Γοδολίαν, καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς Γοδολίαν εἰς Μασσηφάθ, καὶ Ἰσμαὴλ υἱὸς Ναθανίου καὶ Ἰωανὰν υἱὸς Καρηὲ καὶ Σαραίας υἱὸς Θανεμὰθ Νετωφαθίτης καὶ Ἰεζονίας υἱὸς τοῦ Μαχαθί, αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτῶν. 23 καὶ ἤκουσαν πάντες οἱ ἄρχοντες τῆς δυνάμεως, αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτῶν, ὅτι κατέστησε βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος τὸν Γοδολίαν, καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς Γοδολίαν εἰς Μασσηφάθ, καὶ Ἰσμαὴλ υἱὸς Ναθανίου καὶ Ἰωανὰν υἱὸς Καρὴθ καὶ Σαραίας υἱὸς Θαναμὰθ Νετωφαθίτης καὶ Ἰεζονίας υἱὸς τοῦ Μαχαθί, αὐτοὶ καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες αὐτῶν.

24 And Gedaliah swore to them, and to their men, and said unto them, Fear not to be the servants of the Chaldees: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon; and it shall be well with you.

24 καὶ ὤμοσεν Γοδολίας αὐτοῖς καὶ τοῖς ἀνδράσιν αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς μὴ φοβεῖσθε πάροδον τῶν Χαλδαίων· καθίσατε ἐν τῇ γῇ καὶ δουλεύσατε τῷ βασιλεῖ Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ καλῶς ἔσται ὑμῖν. 24 καὶ ὤμοσε Γοδολίας αὐτοῖς καὶ τοῖς ἀνδράσιν αὐτῶν καὶ εἶπε αὐτοῖς· μὴ φοβεῖσθε πάροδον τῶν Χαλδαίων· καθίσατε ἐν τῇ γῇ καὶ δουλεύσατε τῷ βασιλεῖ Βαβυλῶνος, καὶ καλῶς ἔσται ὑμῖν.

27 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ τριακοστῷ καὶ ἑβδόμῳ ἔτει τῆς ἀποικεσίας τοῦ Ἰωακὶμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα ἐν τῷ δωδεκάτῳ μηνὶ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνὸς ὕψωσεν Εὐιλμαρωδὰχ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωακὶμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα καὶ ἐξήγαγεν αὐτὸν ἐξ οἴκου φυλακῆς αὐτοῦ 27 Καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ τριακοστῷ καὶ ἑβδόμῳ ἔτει τῆς ἀποικίας τοῦ Ἰωαχὶμ βασιλέως Ἰούδα, ἐν τῷ δωδεκάτῳ μηνὶ ἑβδόμῃ καὶ εἰκάδι τοῦ μηνὸς ὕψωσεν Εὐιαλμαρωδὰχ βασιλεὺς Βαβυλῶνος ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῆς βασιλείας αὐτοῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν Ἰωαχὶμ τοῦ βασιλέως Ἰούδα καὶ ἐξήγαγεν αὐτὸν ἐξ οἴκου φυλακῆς αὐτοῦ.

28 And he spoke kindly to him, and set his throne above the throne of the kings that were with him in Babylon;

28 καὶ ἐλάλησεν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἀγαθὰ καὶ ἔδωκεν τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ ἐπάνωθεν τῶν θρόνων τῶν βασιλέων τῶν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι, 28 καὶ ἐλάλησε μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἀγαθὰ καὶ ἔδωκε τὸν θρόνον αὐτοῦ ἐπάνωθεν τῶν θρόνων τῶν βασιλέων τῶν μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν Βαβυλῶνι,
