1 A Song of degrees for Solomon.
Unless Yahweh builds the house, they labour in vain who build it; unless Yahweh keeps the city, the watchman awakens but in vain.


127:1 [ᾨδὴ τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν·
τῷ Σαλωμών.] Ἐὰν μὴ κύριος οἰκοδομήσῃ οἶκον, εἰς μάτην ἐκοπίασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες αὐτόν·
ἐὰν μὴ κύριος φυλάξῃ πόλιν, εἰς μάτην ἠγρύπνησεν ὁ φυλάσσων. 		127:1 ᾨδὴ τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν. — Ἐὰν μὴ Κύριος οἰκοδομήσῃ οἶκον, εἰς μάτην ἐκοπίασαν οἱ οἰκοδομοῦντες·

2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so he gives his beloved sleep.

127:2 εἰς μάτην ὑμῖν ἐστιν τοῦ ὀρθρίζειν, ἐγείρεσθαι μετὰ τὸ καθῆσθαι, οἱ ἔσθοντες ἄρτον ὀδύνης, ὅταν δῷ τοῖς ἀγαπητοῖς αὐτοῦ ὕπνον. 127:2 εἰς μάτην ὑμῖν ἔστι τὸ ὀρθρίζειν, ἐγείρεσθαι μετὰ τὸ καθῆσθαι, οἱ ἐσθίοντες ἄρτον ὀδύνης, ὅταν δῷ τοῖς ἀγαπητοῖς αὐτοῦ ὕπνον.

4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.

5 Happy is the man that has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

127:5 μακάριος ἄνθρωπος, ὃς πληρώσει τὴν ἐπιθυμίαν αὐτοῦ ἐξ αὐτῶν·
