Descendants of Adam
| 1 Αὕτη ἡ βίβλος γενέσεως ἀνθρώπων· ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐποίησεν ὁ θεὸς τὸν Ἀδάμ, κατ' εἰκόνα θεοῦ ἐποίησεν αὐτόν. 2 ἄρσεν καὶ θῆλυ ἐποίησεν αὐτούς· καὶ εὐλόγησεν αὐτούς· καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτῶν Ἀδάμ, ᾗ ἡμέρᾳ ἐποίησεν αὐτούς. 3 ἔζησεν δὲ Ἀδὰμ διακόσια καὶ τριάκοντα ἔτη, καὶ ἐγέννησεν κατὰ τὴν ἰδέαν αὐτοῦ, καὶ κατὰ τὴν εἰκόνα αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐπωνόμασεν τὸ ὄνομα αὐτοῦ, Σήθ. 4 ἐγένοντο δὲ αἱ ἡμέραι Ἀδάμ, ἃς ἔζησεν μετὰ τὸ γεννῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν Σήθ, ἑπτακόσια ἔτη· καὶ ἐγέννησεν υἱοὺς καὶ θυγατέρας. 5 καὶ ἐγένοντο πᾶσαι αἱ ἡμέραι Ἀδάμ, ἃς ἔζησεν, ἐννακόσια καὶ τριάκοντα ἔτη· καὶ ἀπέθανεν. | 1 This is the book of the generation of men; in the day that God made Adam, according to the image of God He made him. 2 Male and female He made them; and He blessed them; and He called their name "Adam," in the day He made them. 3 And Adam lived two hundred and thirty years,[1] and fathered a son according to his own form and according to his own image, and he called his name Seth. 4 And the days of Adam, which he lived after he fathered Seth, were seven hundred years; and he fathered sons and daughters. 5 And all the days of Adam, which he lived, were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. |
[1]The Hebrew text says Adam was 130 when he fathered Seth; the Septuagint says he was 230. This pattern continues for most of the lineage.
Because of these extra centuries, the Septuagint places the date of Creation significantly earlier (roughly 5500 BC) than the Hebrew tradition (roughly 4004 BC, popularized by Bishop Ussher).

[1]The Greek text connects Noah’s name to the word dianapausei (διαναπαύσει), meaning "he will give rest." This reflects a play on words in the original Hebrew that the Greek translators worked hard to preserve.
