Job: I am righteous
1 Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said,
27:1 And Job further continued and said in his prelude, | 27:1 And Job further continued and said in his prelude, |
2 “As God lives, who has taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who has vexed my soul;
27:2 As God lives, who has thus judge me; and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul; | 27:2 As God lives, who has thus judge me; and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul; |
3 All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
27:3 verily, while my breath is yet in me, and the breath of God which remains to me is in my nostrils, | 27:3 verily, while my breath is yet in me, and the breath of God which remains to me is in my nostrils, |
4 My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
27:4 my lips shall not speak evil words, neither shall my soul meditate unrighteous thoughts. | 27:4 my lips shall not speak evil words, neither shall my soul meditate unrighteous thoughts. |
5 God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I won't remove my integrity from me.
27:5
μή
μοι
εἴη
ἕως
ἄν
27:5 Far be it from me that I should justify you till I die; for I won't let go my innocence, | 27:5 Far be it from me that I should justify you till I die; for I won't let go my innocence, |
6 My righteousness I hold fast, and won't let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
27:6
δὲ
οὐ
μὴ
27:6 but keeping fast to my righteousness I will by no means let it go; for I am not conscious to myself of having done anything amiss. | 27:6 but keeping fast to my righteousness I will by no means let it go; for I am not conscious to myself of having done anything amiss. |
Job: The Godless Have No Hope
7 Let my enemy be as the wicked, and he who rises up against me as the unrighteous.
27:7 No rather, but let my enemies be as the overthrow of the ungodly, and they who rise up against me, as the destruction of transgressors. | 27:7 No rather, but let my enemies be as the overthrow of the ungodly, and they who rise up against me, as the destruction of transgressors. |
8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?
27:8
καὶ
τίς
γάρ
ὅτι
27:8 For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he holds to it? Will he indeed trust in the Lord and be saved? | 27:8 For what is the hope of the ungodly, that he holds to it? Will he indeed trust in the Lord and be saved? |
9 Will God hear his cry when trouble comes on him?
27:9
ἦ
τὴν
27:9 Will God hear his prayer? Or, when distress has come on him, | 27:9 Will God hear his prayer? Or, when distress has come on him, |
10 Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God?
27:10 has he any confidence before him? Or will God hear him as he calls on him? | 27:10 has he any confidence before him? Or will God hear him as he calls on him? |
11 I will teach you by the hand of God: what is with the Almighty will I not conceal.
27:11
δὴ
τί
ἐν
27:11 Yet now I will tell you what is in the hand of the Lord: I won't lie concerning the things which are with the Almighty. | 27:11 Yet now I will tell you what is in the hand of the Lord: I won't lie concerning the things which are with the Almighty. |
12 Behold, all you yourselves have seen it; why then are you thus altogether vain?
27:12 Behold, you all know that you are adding vanity to vanity. | 27:12 Behold, you all know that you are adding vanity to vanity. |
13 This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.
27:13 This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of oppressors shall come on them from the Almighty. | 27:13 This is the portion of an ungodly man from the Lord, and the possession of oppressors shall come on them from the Almighty. |
14 If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword; and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
27:14
ἐὰν
δὲ
οἱ
εἰς
27:14 And if their children be many, they shall be for slaughter; and if they grow up, they shall beg. | 27:14 And if their children be many, they shall be for slaughter; and if they grow up, they shall beg. |
15 Those who remain of him shall be buried in death; and his widows shall not weep.
27:15 And they who survive of him shall utterly perish, and no one shall pity their widows. | 27:15 And they who survive of him shall utterly perish, and no one shall pity their widows. |
16 Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare clothing as the clay;
27:16 Even if he should gather silver as earth, and prepare gold as clay; | 27:16 Even if he should gather silver as earth, and prepare gold as clay; |
17 He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
27:17 All these things shall the righteous gain, and the truehearted shall possess his wealth. | 27:17 All these things shall the righteous gain, and the truehearted shall possess his wealth. |
18 He builds his house as a moth, and as a tent that the keeper makes.
27:18 And his house is gone like moths, and like a spider's web. | 27:18 And his house is gone like moths, and like a spider's web. |
19 The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he opens his eyes, and it doesn't exist.
27:19 The rich man shall lie down, and shall not continue: he has opened his eyes, and it doesn't exist. | 27:19 The rich man shall lie down, and shall not continue: he has opened his eyes, and it doesn't exist. |
20 Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night.
27:20 Pains have come on him as water, and darkness has carried him away by night. | 27:20 Pains have come on him as water, and darkness has carried him away by night. |
21 The east wind carries him away, and he departs; and as a storm hurls him out of his place.
27:21 And a burning wind shall catch him, and he shall depart, and it shall utterly drive him out of his place. | 27:21 And a burning wind shall catch him, and he shall depart, and it shall utterly drive him out of his place. |
22 For God shall cast on him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.
27:22
καὶ
ἐπ'
καὶ
οὐ
27:22 And God shall cast trouble on him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand. | 27:22 And God shall cast trouble on him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand. |
23 Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.
27:23 He shall cause men to clap their hands against them, and shall hiss him out of his place. | 27:23 He shall cause men to clap their hands against them, and shall hiss him out of his place. |
