Chapter 32

AlexandrinusVaticanus

Elihu Rebukes Job

1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.

32:1 And his three friends also ceased any longer to answer Job; for Job was righteous before them. 32:1 And his three friends also ceased any longer to answer Job; for Job was righteous before them.

2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.

32:2 Then Elius the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the country of Ausis, was angered; and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord. 32:2 Then Elius the son of Barachiel, the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, of the country of Ausis, was angered; and he was very angry with Job, because he justified himself before the Lord.

3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

32:3 And he was also very angry with his three friends, because they were not able to return answers to Job, yet set him down for an ungodly man. 32:3 And he was also very angry with his three friends, because they were not able to return answers to Job, yet set him down for an ungodly man.

4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.

32:4 But Elius had delayed to give an answer to Job, because they were older than he. 32:4 But Elius had delayed to give an answer to Job, because they were older than he.

5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.

32:5 And Elius saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men; and he was angered in his wrath. 32:5 And Elius saw that there was no answer in the mouth of the three men; and he was angered in his wrath.

6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, “I am young, and you are very old; therefore I was afraid, and durst not show you my opinion.

32:6 And Elius the Buzite the son of Barachiel answered and said, “I am younger in age, and you are elder, why I kept silence, fearing to declare to you my own knowledge. 32:6 And Elius the Buzite the son of Barachiel answered and said, “I am younger in age, and you are elder, why I kept silence, fearing to declare to you my own knowledge.

7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.

32:7 And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom. 32:7 And I said, It is not time that speaks, though in many years men know wisdom.

8 But there is a spirit in man; and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.

32:8 but there is a spirit in mortals; and the inspiration of the Almighty is what teaches. 32:8 but there is a spirit in mortals; and the inspiration of the Almighty is what teaches.

9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.

32:9 The long-lived are not wise as such; neither do the aged know judgment. 32:9 The long-lived are not wise as such; neither do the aged know judgment.

10 Therefore I said, Listen to me; ‘I also will show my opinion.'

32:10 Why I said, ‘Hear me, and I will tell you what I know.' 32:10 Why I said, ‘Hear me, and I will tell you what I know.'

11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, while you searched out what to say.

32:11 Listen to my words; for I will speak in your hearing, until you shall have tried the matter with words. 32:11 Listen to my words; for I will speak in your hearing, until you shall have tried the matter with words.

12 Yes, I attended to you, and, behold, there was none of you who convinced Job, or who answered his words.

32:12 and I shall understand as far as you; and, behold, there was no one of you who answered Job his words in argument, 32:12 and I shall understand as far as you; and, behold, there was no one of you who answered Job his words in argument,

13 Lest you should say, ‘We have found out wisdom: God thrusts him down, not man.'

32:13 lest you should say, ‘We have found that we have added wisdom to the Lord.' 32:13 lest you should say, ‘We have found that we have added wisdom to the Lord.'

14 Now he hasn't directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.

32:14 And you have commissioned a man to speak such words. 32:14 And you have commissioned a man to speak such words.

15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.

32:15 They were afraid, they answered no longer; they gave up their speaking. 32:15 They were afraid, they answered no longer; they gave up their speaking.

16 When I had waited, (for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more;)

32:16 I waited, (for I hadn't spoken,) because they stood still, they didn't answere. 32:16 I waited, (for I hadn't spoken,) because they stood still, they didn't answere.

17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will show my opinion.

32:17 And Elius continued, and said, I will again speak, 32:17 And Elius continued, and said, I will again speak,

18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constrains me.

32:18 for I am full of words, for the spirit of my belly destroys me. 32:18 for I am full of words, for the spirit of my belly destroys me.

19 Behold, my belly is as wine which has no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.

32:19 And my belly is as a skin of sweet wine, bound up and ready to burst; or as a brazier's labouring bellows. 32:19 And my belly is as a skin of sweet wine, bound up and ready to burst; or as a brazier's labouring bellows.

20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.

32:20 I will speak, that I may open my lips and relieve myself. 32:20 I will speak, that I may open my lips and relieve myself.

21 Let me not, please, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles to man.

32:21 For truly I won't be awed because of man, nor indeed will I be confounded before a mortal. 32:21 For truly I won't be awed because of man, nor indeed will I be confounded before a mortal.

22 For I don't know to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

32:22 For I don't know how to respect persons; and if otherwise, even the moths would eat me. 32:22 For I don't know how to respect persons; and if otherwise, even the moths would eat me.
