Psalm 10
(LXX 9:21-38)

1 Why do you stand afar off, Oh Yahweh? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

10:1 Ἵνα τί, κύριε, ἀφέστηκας μακρόθεν, ὑπερορᾷς ἐν εὐκαιρίαις, ἐν θλίψει; 10:1 Ἱνατί, Κύριε, ἀφέστηκας μακροθυμεῖ, ὑπερορᾷς ἐν εὐκαιρίαις ἐν θλίψεσιν;

2 The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

3 For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom Yahweh abhors.

4 The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, won't seek after God; God is not in all his thoughts.

10:4 παρώξυνεν τὸν κύριον ὁ ἁμαρτωλός, κατὰ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς ὀργῆς αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἐκζητήσει·

5 His ways are always grievous; your judgments are far above out of his sight; as for all his enemies, he puffs at them.

6 He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved; for I shall never be in adversity.”

10:6 εἶπεν γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ,
οὐ μὴ σαλευθῶ ἀπὸ γενεᾶς εἰς γενεὰν ἄνευ κακοῦ. 		10:6 εἶπε γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ·

7 His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud; under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

8 He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the secret places he murder the innocent; his eyes are privately set against the poor.

10:8 ἐγκάθηται ἐνέδρᾳ μετὰ πλουσίων ἐν ἀποκρύφοις, ἀποκτεῖναι ἀθῷον·
οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸν πένητα ἀποβλέπουσιν. 		10:8 ἐγκάθηται ἐνέδρᾳ μετὰ πλουσίων, ἐν ἀποκρύφοις τοῦ ἀποκτεῖναι ἀθῷον·

10:9 ἐνεδρεύει ἐν ἀποκρύφῳ ὡς λέων ἐν τῇ μάνδρᾳ αὐτοῦ·

11 He has said in his heart, “God has forgotten; he hides his face; he will never see it.”

10:11 εἶπεν γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ,
ἐπιλέλησται ὁ θεός, ἀπέστρεψεν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ τοῦ μὴ βλέπειν εἰς τέλος. 		10:11 εἶπε γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ·

12 Arise, Oh Yahweh; Oh God, lift up your hand; don't forget the humble.

13 Why does the wicked contemn God? He has said in his heart, “You won't require it.”

10:13 ἕνεκεν τίνος παρώξυνεν ὁ ἀσεβὴς τὸν θεόν;
εἶπεν γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ,
οὐκ ἐκζητήσει. 		10:13 ἕνεκεν τίνος παρώργισεν ὁ ἀσεβὴς τὸν Θεόν;
εἶπε γὰρ ἐν καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ·

14 You have seen it; for you behold mischief and spite, to requite it with your hand; the poor commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless.

10:14 βλέπεις, ὅτι σὺ πόνον καὶ θυμὸν κατανοεῖς, τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖράς σου·

15 Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness till you find none.

16 Yahweh is King forever and ever; the heathen are perished out of his land.

17 Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble; you will prepare their heart, you will cause your ear to hear;

18 To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
