1And again the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israēl, and he moved David against them to say, “Go, number Israēl and Judah.”

10And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said to Yahweh, “I have sinned greatly in that I have done; and now, I beseech you, Oh Yahweh, take away the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly.”

Pestilence Sent

15So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israēl from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba 70,000 men.

16And when the angel stretched out his hand on Jerusalem to destroy it, Yahweh repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, “It is enough: stay now your hand.” And the angel of Yahweh was by the threshing-place of Araunah the Jebusite.

David Builds an Altar

18And Gad came that day to David, and said to him, “Go up, rear an altar to Yahweh in the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite.”

24And the king said to Araunah, “No; but I will surely buy it of you at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings to Yahweh my Elohim of what does cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for 50 shekels of silver.

25And David built there an altar to Yahweh, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israēl.
