Job Feels Insulted
1 Then Job answered and said,
19:1 Then Job answered and said, | 19:1 Then Job answered and said, |
2 “How long will you vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

3 These ten times have you reproached me: you are not ashamed that you make yourselves strange to me.
19:3
ὅτι
ὁ
με
19:3 You speak against me; you don't feel for me, but bear hard on me. | 19:3 You speak against me; you don't feel for me, but bear hard on me. |
4 And be it indeed that I have erred, my error remains with myself.
19:4 Yes verily, I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) in having spoken words which it wasn't right to speak; and my words err, and are unreasonable. | 19:4 Yes verily, I have erred in truth, (but the error abides with myself) in having spoken words which it wasn't right to speak; and my words err, and are unreasonable. |
5 If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach.
19:5 But alas! for you magnify yourselves against me, and insult me with reproach. | 19:5 But alas! for you magnify yourselves against me, and insult me with reproach. |
6 Know now that God has overthrown me, and has surrounded me with his net.
19:6 Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled me, and has raised his bulwark against me. | 19:6 Know then that it is the Lord that has troubled me, and has raised his bulwark against me. |
Job: Everything is Against Me
7 Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment.
19:7

καὶ
οὐ

19:7 Behold, I laugh at reproach; I won't speak: or I will cry out, but there is nowhere judgment. | 19:7 Behold, I laugh at reproach; I won't speak: or I will cry out, but there is nowhere judgment. |
8 He has fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he has set darkness in my paths.
19:8 I am fenced all around, and can by no means escape: he has set darkness before my face. | 19:8 I am fenced all around, and can by no means escape: he has set darkness before my face. |
9 He has stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.
19:9 And he has stripped me of my glory, and has taken the crown from my head. | 19:9 And he has stripped me of my glory, and has taken the crown from my head. |
10 He has destroyed me on every side, and I am gone; and my hope has he removed like a tree.
19:10

19:10 He has torn me all around, and I am gone; and he has cut off my hope like a tree. | 19:10 He has torn me all around, and I am gone; and he has cut off my hope like a tree. |
11 He has also kindled his wrath against me, and he counts me to him as one of his enemies.
19:11 And he has dreadfully handled me in anger, and has counted me for an enemy. | 19:11 And he has dreadfully handled me in anger, and has counted me for an enemy. |
12 His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp all around my tent.
19:12 His troops also came on me with one accord, liars in wait surrounded my ways. | 19:12 His troops also came on me with one accord, liars in wait surrounded my ways. |
13 He has put my brothers far from me, and my acquaintance are verily estranged from me.

19:13 My brothers have stood aloof from me; they have recognized strangers rather than me; and my friends have become pitiless. | 19:13 My brothers have stood aloof from me; they have recognized strangers rather than me; and my friends have become pitiless. |
14 My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.
19:14 My nearest of kin haven't acknowledged me, and they who knew my name, have forgotten me. | 19:14 My nearest of kin haven't acknowledged me, and they who knew my name, have forgotten me. |
15 They who dwell in my house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.
19:15 As for my household, and my maid-servants, I was a stranger before them. | 19:15 As for my household, and my maid-servants, I was a stranger before them. |
16 I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I entreated him with my mouth.
19:16

19:16 I called my servant, and he didn't listen; and my mouth entreated him. | 19:16 I called my servant, and he didn't listen; and my mouth entreated him. |
17 My breath is strange to my wife, though I entreated for the children's sake of my own body.
19:17 And I besought my wife, and earnestly entreated the sons of my concubines. | 19:17 And I besought my wife, and earnestly entreated the sons of my concubines. |
18 Yes, young children despised me; I arose, and they spoke against me.
19:18

19:18 But they rejected me forever; whenever I rise up, they speak against me. | 19:18 But they rejected me forever; whenever I rise up, they speak against me. |
19 All my inward friends abhorred me; and they whom I loved are turned against me.
19:19

19:19 They who saw me abhorred me: the very persons whom I had loved, rose up against me. | 19:19 They who saw me abhorred me: the very persons whom I had loved, rose up against me. |
20 My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth.
19:20 My flesh is corrupt under my skin, and my bones are held in my teeth. | 19:20 My flesh is corrupt under my skin, and my bones are held in my teeth. |
21 Have pity on me, have pity on me, Oh you my friends; for the hand of God has touched me.
19:21

με,
ὦ
19:21 Pity me, pity me, Oh friends; for it is the hand of the Lord who has touched me. | 19:21 Pity me, pity me, Oh friends; for it is the hand of the Lord who has touched me. |
22 Why do you persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?

19:22 Why do you persecute me as also the Lord does, and are not satisfied with my flesh? | 19:22 Why do you persecute me as also the Lord does, and are not satisfied with my flesh? |
Job: My Redeemer Lives
23 Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book!
19:23 For oh that my words were written, and that they were recorded in a book forever, | 19:23 For oh that my words were written, and that they were recorded in a book forever, |
24 That they were engraven with an iron pen and lead in the rock forever!
19:24 with an iron pen and lead, or engraven in the rocks! | 19:24 with an iron pen and lead, or engraven in the rocks! |
25 For I know that my redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the latter day on the earth.
19:25 For I know that he is eternal who is about to deliver me, | 19:25 For I know that he is eternal who is about to deliver me, |
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.
