Chapter 14
War of the Kings
1 And it came to pass in the reign of Amarphel king of Sennaar, Arioch king of Ellasar, and Chodollogomor king of Elam, and Thargal king of nations, 2 they made war with Balla king of Sodom, and with Barsa king of Gomorrah, and Sennaar king of Adama, and Symobor king of Seboim, and the king of Balak (this is Segor). 3 All these met together at the salt valley (this is the Sea of Salt). 4 Twelve years they served Chodollogomor, but in the thirteenth year they revolted. 5 And in the fourteenth year Chodollogomor came and the kings with him, and they cut down the giants who were in Asteroth Karnain, and strong nations with them, and the Ommaeans who were in the city of Saue, 6 and the Chorraeans in the mountains of Seir as far as the terebinth tree of Pharan, which is in the wilderness.
7 And having turned back, they came to the spring of judgment (this is Kades) and cut down all the rulers of Amalek and the Amorites inhabiting Asasanthamar. 8 And the king of Sodom went out, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Adama, and the king of Seboim, and the king of Balak (this is Segor), and they drew up against them for battle in the salt valley, 9 against Chodollogomor king of Elam, and Thargal king of nations, and Amarphel king of Sennaar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—the four kings against the five. 10 Now the salt valley had wells of asphalt; and the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah fled and fell in there, and those left fled to the hill country. 11 And they took all the cavalry (goods/horses) of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their provisions and departed. 12 And they took also Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, and his property, and went away; for he was dwelling in Sodom.
13 And one of those who were saved, having arrived, reported it to Abram the "passer-by" (the Hebrew); he was dwelling by the oak of Mambre the Amorite, the brother of Eschol and brother of Aunan, who were confederates of Abram. 14 And Abram, having heard that Lot his brother had been taken captive, numbered his own home-born servants, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued after them as far as Dan. 15 And he fell upon them at night, he and his servants, and he smote them and pursued them as far as Choba, which is on the left of Damascus. 16 And he brought back all the cavalry of Sodom, and Lot his brother he brought back, and his property, and the women, and the people.
God's Promise to Abram
18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; and he was priest of God the Most High. 19 And he blessed Abram and said, "Blessed be Abram by God the Most High, who created the heaven and the earth; 20 and blessed be God the Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hands." And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.
21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the men, but take the cavalry for yourself." 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I will stretch out my hand to God the Most High, who created the heaven and the earth, 23 if from a thread to a shoelace I will take from all that is yours, lest you should say, 'I have made Abram rich'— 24 except what the young men have eaten, and the portion of the men who went with me, Eschol, Aunan, and Mambre; they shall take a portion."
