Chapter 13
Final Warning and the Power of Christ
{Deut.
1This is the third time I am coming to you. “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter shall be established.” {Deut. 19:15} 2I have previously warned, and I warn you now—as I did when I was present the second time, and now while I am absent—those who sinned before and all the rest: that if I come again, I will not spare you. 3Since you are seeking proof that Christ is speaking in me—He who is not weak toward you, but is powerful among you. 4For indeed, He was crucified out of weakness, yet He lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, but we will live with Him by the power of God directed toward you.
Examine Yourselves
5Put yourselves to the test to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless, of course, you fail the test. 6But I hope you will realize that we do not fail the test. 7Now we pray to God that you do no wrong—not so that we may appear to have passed the test, but so that you may do what is right, even if we should seem to have failed. 8For we can do nothing against the truth, but only for the truth. 9For we rejoice when we are weak and you are strong; this is what we pray for: your restoration. 10For this reason I am writing these things while absent, so that when I am present I may not have to act severely according to the authority which the Lord gave me for building up and not for tearing down.
Final Greetings and Benediction
11Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Be restored, be encouraged, be of the same mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. 12Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you.
13The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
