AlexandrinusVaticanus

Creation

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

1 In the beginning God made the sky and the earth. 1 In the beginning God made the sky and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void [a waste/chaos and empty]; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved [hovered] on the face of the waters.

2 Yet the earth was invisible and unformed, and darkness was over the abyss, then the spirit of God was floating over the water. 2 Yet the earth was invisible and unformed, and darkness was over the abyss, then the spirit of God was floating over the water.

3 And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.

3 Then God said, “Let light come into being.” Then light came into being. 3 Then God said, “Let light come into being.” Then light came into being.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.

4 Then God saw the light, that it was good. God distinguished the light from the darkness. 4 Then God saw the light, that it was good. God distinguished the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light “Day,” and the darkness he called “Night.” And the evening and the morning were the first day.

5 Then God called the light, “Day” and He called the darkness, “Night.” So it came to be evening and it came to be morning, day one. 5 Then God called the light, “Day” and He called the darkness, “Night.” So it came to be evening and it came to be morning, day one.

6 And God said, “Let there be an atmosphere [expanse/firmament] in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.”

6 Then God said, “Let an atmosphere [firmament] come into being in the middle of the water, and let it divide water from water.” Then it came to be this way. 6 Then God said, “Let an atmosphere [firmament] come into being in the middle of the water, and let it divide water from water.” Then it came to be this way.

7 And God made the atmosphere [firmament], and divided the waters which were under the atmosphere [firmament] from the waters which were above the atmosphere [firmament] ; and it was so.

7 Then God made the firmament [expanse] and separated the water that was under the atmosphere [firmament] from the water that was above the atmosphere [firmament]. 7 Then God made the atmosphere [firmament] and separated the water that was under the atmosphere [firmament] from the water that was above the atmosphere [firmament].

8 And God called the atmosphere [firmament] “Skies.” And the evening and the morning were the second day.

8 God called the atmosphere [firmament], “Sky”; and God saw that it was good. Then it came to be evening and it came to be morning, a second day. 8 God called the atmosphere [firmament], “Sky”; and God saw that it was good. Then it came to be evening and it came to be morning, a second day.

9 And God said, “Let the waters under the skies be gathered together to one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so.

9 Next God said, “Let the water that is under the sky be collected into one gathering, and let the dry land appear.” Then it came to be this way. The water that was under the sky collected into their gathering, and the dry land appeared. 9 Next God said, “Let the water that is under the sky be collected into one gathering, and let the dry land appear.” Then it came to be this way. The water that was under the sky collected into their gathering, and the dry land appeared.

10 And God called the dry land “Earth”; and the gathering together of the waters he called “Seas”; and God saw that it was good.

10 And God called the dry thing, “Land”; and the gatherings of the waters he called “Seas”; and God saw that it was good. 10 And God called the dry thing, “Land”; and the gatherings of the waters he called “Seas”; and God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after its species, whose seed is in itself, on the earth”; and it was so.

11 And God said, “Let the land sprout the vegetation of a plant, seeding seed according to kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit-tree making fruit which has its seed in it, according to kind on the land.” And it became so. 11 And God said, “Let the land sprout the vegetation of a plant, seeding seed according to kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit-tree making fruit which has its seed in it, according to kind on the land.” And it became so.

12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after its species, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after its species: and God saw that it was good.

12 And the land brought forth the vegetation of a plant, seeding seed according to kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit tree making fruit which has seed in it according to kind, on the land. And God saw that it was good. 12 And the land brought forth the vegetation of a plant, seeding seed according to kind and according to its likeness, and the fruit tree making fruit which has seed in it according to kind, on the land. And God saw that it was good.

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. 13 And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years;

14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky for illumination on the land, to distinguish between day and night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and for years. 14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky for illumination on the land, to distinguish between day and night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and for years.

15 And let them be for lights in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky to give light on the earth”; and it was so.

15 And let them be for illumination in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky, so as to shine on the land.” And it was so. 15 And let them be for illumination in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky, so as to shine on the land.” And it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night; he made the stars also.

16 And God made the two great lights, the greater light for ruling the day and the lesser light for ruling the night, the stars also. 16 And God made the two great lights, the greater light for ruling the day and the lesser light for ruling the night, the stars also.

17 And God set them in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky to give light on the earth,

17 And God placed them in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky, so as to shine on the land, 17 And God placed them in the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky, so as to shine on the land,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good.

18 and to rule day and night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 18 and to rule day and night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. 19 And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

20 And God said, “Let the waters abundantly bring forth the moving creature that has life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open atmosphere [firmament] of the sky.”

20 And God said, “Let the waters bring forth reptiles having living life, and birds flying above the land throughout the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky.” And it was so. 20 And God said, “Let the waters bring forth reptiles having living life, and birds flying above the land throughout the atmosphere [firmament] of the sky.” And it was so.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moves, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their species, and every winged fowl after its species; and God saw that it was good.

21 And God made great fish, and every breath of life of reptiles, which the waters brought forth according to their kinds, and every feathered bird according to kind, and God saw that they were good. 21 And God made great fish, and every breath of life of reptiles, which the waters brought forth according to their kinds, and every feathered bird according to kind, and God saw that they were good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.”

22 And God blessed them saying, “Increase and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds multiply themselveds on the land.” 22 And God blessed them saying, “Increase and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let the birds multiply themselveds on the land.”

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. 23 And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

24 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its species, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its species.” And it was so.

24 And God said, “Let the land bring out the breath of life according to kind, quadrupeds and reptiles and wild beasts of the land according to kind.” And it was so. 24 And God said, “Let the land bring out the breath of life according to kind, quadrupeds and reptiles and wild beasts of the land according to kind.” And it was so.

25 Then God made the beast of the earth after its species, and cattle after its species, and every thing that creeps on the earth after its species; and God saw that it was good.

25 And God made the wild beasts of the land according to kind, and cattle according to kind, and all the reptiles of the land according to their kind, and God saw that they were good. 25 And God made the wild beasts of the land according to kind, and cattle according to their kind, and all the reptiles of the land according to their kind, and God saw that they were good.

26 And God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

26 And God said, “Let us make man according to our image and according to likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over all the cattle of the land, and over all the reptiles creeping on the land.” 26 And God said, “Let us make man according to our image and according to likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the sky, and over all the cattle of the land, and over all the reptiles creeping on the land.”

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

27 And God made man. He made him according to the image of God. He made them male and female. 27 And God made man. He made him according to the image of God. He made them male and female.

28 And God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

28 And God blessed them, saying, “Increase and multiply, and fill the land and overcome it, and manage the fish of the seas and the birds of the sky, and all the cattle, and all the land, and all the reptiles that creep on the land.” 28 And God blessed them, saying, “Increase and multiply, and fill the land and overcome it, and manage the fish of the seas and the birds of the sky, and all the cattle, and all the land, and all the reptiles that creep on the land.”

29 And God said, “Look, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food.

29 And God said, “Look! I have given to you every seed-bearing vegetation sowing seed which is on all the land, and every tree which has in it the fruit of seed that is sown, to you it shall be for food. 29 And God said, “Look! I have given to you every seed-bearing vegetation sowing seed which is on all the land, and every tree which has in it the fruit of seed that is sown, to you it shall be for food.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so.

30 And to all the wild beasts of the land, and to all the birds of the sky, and to every creeping animal creeping on the earth, which has in itself the breath of life, every green vegetation for food.” And it was so. 30 And to all the wild beasts of the land, and to all the birds of the sky, and to every creeping animal creeping on the earth, which has in itself the breath of life, every green vegetation for food.” And it was so.

31 And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

31 And God saw all the things that he had made, and, look! they were very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. 31 And God saw all the things that he had made, and, look! they were very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
