Psalm 139 (140)
Protection from the Slanderous and Violent
| 139.1 [MT=140:1] Deliver me, O Lord, from the evil man; rescue me from the unjust man, 139.2 [MT=140:2] who have devised injustices in [their] heart; all day long they prepared for wars. 139.3 [MT=140:3] They sharpened their tongue like that of a serpent; the poison of asps is under their lips. Pause. |
| 139.4 [MT=140:4] Guard me, O Lord, from the hand of the sinner; deliver me from unjust men, who have devised to trip up my steps. 139.5 [MT=140:5] The proud have hidden a snare for me, and they stretched out cords—traps for my feet; they set a stumbling block for me near the path. Pause. |
| 139.6 [MT=140:6] I said to the Lord: "You are my God; give ear, O Lord, to the voice of my supplication." 139.7 [MT=140:7] O Lord, Lord, the power of my salvation, You have overshadowed my head in the day of war. 139.8 [MT=140:8] Do not give me up, O Lord, to the sinner according to my desire; they have plotted against me; do not abandon me, lest they be exalted. Pause. |
| 139.9 [MT=140:9] [As for] the head of those encircling me, the mischief of their own lips shall cover them. 139.10 [MT=140:10] Coals shall fall upon them; You will cast them down in fire; in miseries they shall not endure. 139.11 [MT=140:11] A talkative man shall not be guided aright upon the earth; evils shall hunt the unjust man to [his] destruction. 139.12 [MT=140:12] I know that the Lord will execute the judgment of the poor and the justice of the needy. 139.13 [MT=140:13] Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name, and the upright shall dwell with Your presence. |
