Chapter 1
The Supremacy of God’s Son
| 1In many parts and in many ways, God spoke long ago to the fathers by the prophets; 2but in these last days, He has spoken to us in a Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He created the universe. 3He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His essence, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After He had made purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, 4having become as much superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is more excellent than theirs. |
The Son Exalted Above Angels
|
5For to which of the angels did He ever say:
“You are My Son;
And again:
today I have begotten You”? {Psalm 2:7}
“I will be a Father to Him,
and He will be a Son to Me”? {II Sam. 7:14; I Chron. 17:13} |
|
6And again, when He brings the firstborn into the world, He says:
“And let all the angels of God worship Him.”
{Deut. 32:43 LXX}
|
|
7Now regarding the angels He says:
“Who makes His angels winds,
8But regarding the Son:
and His ministers a flame of fire.” {Psalm 104:4}
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
and the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom. 9You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; therefore God, Your God, has anointed You with the oil of gladness beyond Your companions.” {Psalm 45:6-7} |
| 10 καί, |
|
10And:
“You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth,
and the heavens are the works of Your hands; 11they will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment, 12and like a robe You will roll them up; like a garment they will also be changed. But You are the same, and Your years will never end.” {Psalm 102:25-27} |
|
13But to which of the angels has He ever said:
“Sit at My right hand
14Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out for service on account of those who are about to inherit salvation?
until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”? {Psalm 110:1} |
