Chapter 3
To the Church in Sardis
1And to the messenger of the church in Sardis, write: These things says the One who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars: “I know your works—that you have a reputation for being alive, yet you are dead. 2Wake up and strengthen what remains, which was about to die; for I have not found your works to be completed in the sight of My God. 3Remember, then, how you received and heard; keep it and repent. If, therefore, you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will certainly not know at what hour I will come upon you.
4But you have a few names in Sardis who have not defiled their garments, and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. 5The one who conquers will be clothed in this way—in white garments—and I will never wipe out his name from the Book of Life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. 6Let the one who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
To the Church in Philadelphia
7And to the messenger of the church in Philadelphia, write:
These things says the Holy One, the True One,
the One who has the key of David,
the One who opens and no one will shut,
and who shuts and no one opens:
8“I know your works. Look! I have placed before you an open door which no one is able to shut, because you have little power, yet you kept My word and did not deny My name. 9Look! I will give you some from the synagogue of Satan, those who claim to be Jews and are not, but are lying. Look! I will make them come and bow down before your feet and they will know that I have loved you.
10Because you kept the word of My patient endurance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing that is about to come upon the whole inhabited world, to test those who dwell upon the earth. 11I am coming quickly; hold fast to what you have, so that no one takes your crown.
12The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will never depart from it again. And I will write upon him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God—the New Jerusalem which descends out of heaven from My God—and My own new name. 13Let the one who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
To the Church in Laodicea
14And to the messenger of the church in Laodicea, write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation: 15“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were either cold or hot! 16So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit you out of My mouth. 17For you say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired great wealth and have need of nothing,’ and you do not realize that you are the wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked one.
18I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be exposed, and eye salve to rub on your eyes so that you may see. 19As many as I love, I reprove and discipline; be zealous, therefore, and repent. 20Look! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21The one who conquers, I will grant to him to sit with Me on My throne, just as I also conquered and sat down with My Father on His throne. 22Let the one who has an ear hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
