Chapter 65

AlexandrinusVaticanus

A Rebellious People

1 I am sought of those who asked not for me; I am found of those who sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, to a nation that wasn’t called by my name.

1 I became visible to those who were not seeking me; I was found by those who were not asking about me.
I said, “Look! Here I am,” to the nation that didn’t call my name.
1 I became visible to those who were not seeking me; I was found by those who were not asking about me.
I said, “Look! Here I am,” to the nation that didn’t call my name.

2 I have spread out my hands all the day to a rebellious people, which walks in a way that wasn’t good, after their own thoughts;

2 I stretched out my hands the entire day to a disobedient and contrary people, who didn’t walk in a true way but after their own sins. 2 I stretched out my hands the entire day to a disobedient and contrary people, who didn’t walk in a true way but after their own sins.

3 A people that provokes me to anger continually to my face; that sacrifices in gardens, and burns incense on altars of brick;

3 These are the people who provoke me to my face continually; they sacrifice in the gardens and burn incense on bricks to the demons, which don’t exist, 3 These are the people who provoke me to my face continually; they sacrifice in the gardens and burn incense on bricks to the demons, which don’t exist,

4 Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

4 and they fall asleep in the tombs and in the caves because of dreams–those who eat swine’s flesh and broth of sacrifices (all their goods are defiled), 4 and they fall asleep in the tombs and in the caves because of dreams–those who eat swine’s flesh and broth of sacrifices (all their goods are defiled),

5 Which say, Stand by yourself, don’t come near to me; for I am holier than you. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burns all the day.

5

5 who say, “Stay far away from me; don’t come near me, because I am clean.” This is the smoke of my wrath; a fire burns in it all the days. 5 who say, “Stay far away from me; don’t come near me, because I am clean.” This is the smoke of my wrath; a fire burns in it all the days.

6 Behold, it is written before me: I won’t keep silence, but will recompense, even recompense into their bosom,

6 Look! It is written before me; I won’t keep silent until I repay into their bosom, 6 Look! It is written before me; I won’t keep silent until I repay into their bosom,

7 Your iniquities, and the iniquities of your fathers together, says Yahweh, which have burned incense on the mountains, and blasphemed me on the hills; therefore will I measure their former work into their bosom.

7 the sins of them and their fathers, says the Lord, who burned incense on the mountains and reproached me on the hills; I will repay their works into their bosom. 7 the sins of them and their fathers, says the Lord, who burned incense on the mountains and reproached me on the hills; I will repay their works into their bosom.

8 Thus says Yahweh, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one says, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it; so will I do for my servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all.

8 Thus says the Lord: Just as the grape will be found in the cluster, and they will say, “Don’t destroy it, because the blessing of the Lord is in it,” so I will do for the sake of the one who serves me.
For the sake of this one I won’t destroy them all.
8 Thus says the Lord: Just as the grape will be found in the cluster, and they will say, “Don’t destroy it, because the blessing of the Lord is in it,” so I will do for the sake of the one who serves me.
For the sake of this one I won’t destroy them all.

9 And I will bring forth a seed out of Jacōb, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; and my elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.

9 And I will bring out the offspring that comes from Jakōb and from Jouda, and it will inherit my holy mountain, and my chosen ones and my slaves shall inherit it and dwell there. 9 And I will bring out the offspring that comes from Jakōb and from Jouda, and it will inherit my holy mountain, and my chosen ones and my slaves shall inherit it and dwell there.

10 And Sharon shall be a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a place for the herds to lie down in, for my people that have sought me.

10 And there shall befolds of flocks in the forest, and the Valley of Achōr shall become a resting place of herds of cattle for my people who searched for me. 10 And there shall befolds of flocks in the forest, and the Valley of Achōr shall become a resting place of herds of cattle for my people who searched for me.

11 But you are they who forsake Yahweh, that forget my holy mountain, that prepare a table for that troop, and that furnish the drink offering to that number.

11 But as for you who forsake me and forget my holy mountain and prepare a table for the demon and fill a mixed drink for Good Luck, 11 But as for you who forsake me and forget my holy mountain and prepare a table for the demon and fill a mixed drink for Good Luck,

12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and you shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, you didn’t answer; when I spoke, you didn’t hear; but did evil before my eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

12 I will deliver you over to the dagger; all of you shall fall by slaughter; because I called you and you didn’t respond, I spoke and you didn’t pay attention, and you did what was evil before me and chose the things I didn’t want. 12 I will deliver you over to the dagger; all of you shall fall by slaughter; because I called you and you didn’t respond, I spoke and you didn’t pay attention, and you did what was evil before me and chose the things I didn’t want.

13 Therefore thus says Adonai Yahweh, Behold, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed.

13 Therefore this is what the Lord says. Look! Those who are serving me shall eat, but you shall be hungry; Look! Those who are serving me shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; Look! Those who are serving me shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed; 13 Therefore this is what the Lord says. Look! Those who are serving me shall eat, but you shall be hungry; Look! Those who are serving me shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; Look! Those who are serving me shall rejoice, but you shall be ashamed;

14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

14 Look! Those who are serving me shall be glad with joy, but you shall cry out because of the pain of your heart and shall howl for crushing of spirit. 14 Look! Those who are serving me shall be glad with joy, but you shall cry out because of the pain of your heart and shall howl for crushing of spirit.

15 And you shall leave your name for a curse to my chosen; for Adonai Yahweh shall slay you, and call his servants by another name.

15 For you shall forsake your name for satisfaction for my chosen ones, but the Lord will destroy you.
But a new name shall be called for those who are serving him,
15 For you shall forsake your name for satisfaction for my chosen ones, but the Lord will destroy you.
But a new name shall be called for those who are serving him,

16 That he who blesses himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he who swears in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from my eyes.

16 which shall be blessed on the land; for they shall bless the true God, and those who swear on the land shall swear by the true God; for they shall forget their first affliction, and it shall not come up into their heart. 16 which shall be blessed on the land; for they shall bless the true God, and those who swear on the land shall swear by the true God; for they shall forget their first affliction, and it shall not come up into their heart.

New Heavens and a New Earth

17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

17 For the sky will be new, and the land will be new, and they shall not remember the former things, nor shall they come on their heart, 17 For the sky will be new, and the land will be new, and they shall not remember the former things, nor shall they come on their heart,

18 But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy.

18 but they shall find gladness and joy in it, because look! I am making Jerousalēm as joy, and my people as gladness. 18 but they shall find gladness and joy in it, because look! I am making Jerousalēm as joy, and my people as gladness.

19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people; and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.

19 And I will rejoice over Jerousalēm and be glad over my people, and no more shall a voice of weeping be heard in it, nor a voice of crying. 19 And I will rejoice over Jerousalēm and be glad over my people, and no more shall a voice of weeping be heard in it, nor a voice of crying.

20 There shall be no more from there an infant of days, nor an old man who hasn’t filled his days; for the child shall die 100 years old; but the sinner being 100 years old shall be accursed.

20 And there won’t be someone who dies untimely or an old person who doesn’t fulfill his time; for the young person will be a 100 years old, but the one who dies a sinner at a 100 years old will also be accursed. 20 And there won’t be someone who dies untimely or an old person who doesn’t fulfill his time; for the young person will be a 100 years old, but the one who dies a sinner at a 100 years old will also be accursed.

21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat the fruit of them.

21 And they shall build homes and they shall inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards and they shall eat their fruit, 21 And they shall build homes and they shall inhabit them, and they shall plant vineyards and they shall eat their fruit,

22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat; for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and my elect shall long enjoy the work of their hands.

22 and they shall not build, and others inhabit; they shall not plant, and others eat; for according to the days of the tree of life shall the days of my people be; they shall make old the works of their labours. 22 and they shall not build, and others inhabit; they shall not plant, and others eat; for according to the days of the tree of life shall the days of my people be; they shall make old the works of their labours.

23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of Yahweh, and their offspring with them.

23 And my chosen ones shall not labour in vain, nor bear children for a curse, because they are an offspring blessed by God and their posterity will be with them. 23 And my chosen ones shall not labour in vain, nor bear children for a curse, because they are an offspring blessed by God and their posterity will be with them.

24 And it will happen, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

24 καὶ ἔσται πρὶν κεκράξαι αὐτοὺς ἐγὼ ἐπακούσομαι αὐτῶν, ἔτι λαλούντων αὐτῶν ἐρῶ τί ἐστιν; 24 καὶ ἔσται πρὶν κεκράξαι αὐτούς, ἐγὼ ὑπακούσομαι αὐτῶν, ἔτι λαλούντων αὐτῶν ἐρῶ· τί ἔστι;
24 And it shall be that before they have cried out I will hear them; while they are yet speaking I will say, What is it? 24 And it shall be that before they have cried out I will hear them; while they are yet speaking I will say, What is it?

25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock; and dust shall be the serpent’s food.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, says Yahweh.

25 Then wolves and lambs shall feed together, and a lion shall eat straw like an ox, but a snake shall eat dirt like bread! They shall not do wrong or destroy on my holy mountain, says the Lord. 25 Then wolves and lambs shall feed together, and a lion shall eat straw like an ox, but a snake shall eat dirt like bread! They shall not do wrong or destroy on my holy mountain, says the Lord.
