Chapter 15
The Example of Christ and the Unity of Nations
1Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves. 2Let each of us please his neighbor for what is good, for the purpose of building him up. 3For even Christ did not please himself; but as it is written: “The reproaches of those who reproached you fell upon me.” {Psalm 68 (69):9} 4For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. 5Now may the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, 6so that with one accord and with one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
7Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us, for the glory of God. 8For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth, in order to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs, 9and so that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written:
  “Because of this I will praise you among the nations,
and I will sing to your name.
”
{Psalm 17 (18):49}
10And again it says:
  “Rejoice, O nations, with his people.” {Deut. 32:43}
12And again, Isaiah says:
  “The Root of Jesse will come,
even the one who rises to rule the nations;
in him the nations will hope.
” {Isaiah 11:10}
13Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Paul’s Apostolic Mission and Travel Plans
14Now I myself am convinced concerning you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, having been filled with all knowledge, and are capable of admonishing one another. 15But I have written to you quite boldly on some points, as if to remind you again, because of the grace given to me by God 16to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, acting as a priest of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles might become acceptable, having been sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17Therefore, I have my reason for boasting in Christ Jesus regarding the things of God. 18For I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed, 19by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem and in a circle as far as Illyricum I have fulfilled the gospel of Christ. 20And in this way, I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, so that I might not build on another person’s foundation, 21but as it is written:
  “Those who were not told about him will see,
and those who have not heard will understand.
” {Isaiah 52:15}
22This is why I have been prevented many times from coming to you. 23But now, since I no longer have a place in these regions, and having had a longing to come to you for many years, 24whenever I go to Spain [I will come]. For I hope to see you as I pass through and to be sent on my way there by you, after I have first enjoyed your company for a while. 25But for now, I am traveling to Jerusalem to serve the saints. 26For Macedonia and Achaia were pleased to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem. 27They were pleased to do it, and indeed they are in debt to them; for if the Gentiles have shared in their spiritual things, they ought also to minister to them in material things. 28Therefore, when I have finished this and have safely delivered this fruit to them, I will set out for Spain by way of you. 29And I know that when I come to you, I will come in the fullness of the blessing of Christ.
30Now I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to struggle together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf, 31so that I may be rescued from those in Judea who are disobedient, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, 32so that by God’s will I may come to you in joy and find rest together with you. 33Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
